NABSIO MISSION STATEMENT
To eliminate the conditions that create functional illiteracy inside and outside of prisons nationwide that give rise to addiction, criminal behavior and other social ills, by organizing and educating the affected families involving them in economic literacy and cultural awareness projects/workshops, in addition to, mobilizing them to influence change in policies related to Education and Prison reform.
THE NABSIO CONCEPT:
STRATEGIC GOALS
To raise the cultural and spiritual consciousness of incarcerated African-Americans and their families through the study of African-American History.
To build a speakers bureau, from formerly incarcerated people and prison ministries as a criminal behavior deterrent.
To build a working support network composed of volunteer family members and organizations.
To establish Journey Houses and offer other alternatives to housing isolation.
To encourage a more visible/active participation from Black Churches into the prisons through information forums.
Encourage continued post-Afrocentric READJUSTMENT COUNSELING to parolees and their families.
Create and develop Entrepreneurial Training and Opportunities for unemployable formerly incarcerated.

NABSIO ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Since 1993, N.A.B.S.I.O. has:
- Established the Adopt-A-Prison Yard Project becoming the outside sponsors of the African-American Women Prisoners Association (AAWPA), a positive in-house rehabilitative self-help group at California Institute for Women (CIW). The only model of its kind in the United States Penal System.
- Created the first Afrocentric correspondence course for African-American inmates in America.
- Published three must read books, "Selected Collection of Essays from Brothers In & Out"; "New Afrikan Criminology 101" and "From Mis-Education to Incarceration," all available for ordering.
- Established the nationally acclaimed "Each One, Teach One, to Reach One Sponsorship program in 1994, prior to the Million Man March.
