NABSIO MISSION STATEMENT
To eliminate the conditions that create functional and cultural illiteracy inside and outside of prisons nationwide that give rise to addiction, criminal behavior and other social ills, by organizing and educating affected families involving them in literacy and cultural awareness programs/worshops, including influencing policies related to Education and Prison reform.
THE NABSIO CONCEPT:
STRATEGIC GOALS
To raise the cultural, spiritual, and political consciousness of African-Americans and others through the study of African-American History.
Provide cyclical-breaking behavior activities and programs between the incarcerated African-American in particular, the populace in general and their families and communities.
To build a speakers bureau, from formerly incarcerated people and prison ministries as a criminal behavior deterrent.
Encourage guest speakers to visit prisons, through NABSIO’s Speakers Bureau, regularly.
To build a working support network composed of volunteer family members and organizations.
To establish Journey Houses and offer other alternatives to housing isolation.
To encourage a more visible/active participation from Black Churches into the prisons. (Federal and State)
Encourage continued post-Afrocentric READJUSTMENT COUNSELING to parolees and their families.
Create and develop Entrepreneurial Opportunities for unemployable formerly incarcerated.

NABSIO ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Since 1993, N.A.B.S.I.O. has:
- Helped establish the African-American Women Prisoners Association (AAWPA) as a positive in-house rehabilitative self-help group at California Institute for Women (CIW). The only model of its kind in the United States Penal.
- Created the first Afrocentric correspondence course for African-American inmates in America.
- Published two must read books, "NABSIO Selected Collection of Essays from Brothers In & Out" and "New Afrikan Criminology 101" both available for ordering.
- Established the nationally acclaimed "Each One, Teach One, to Reach One Sponsorship program in 1995, after the Million Man March.
- Created the Million Man Marchers Club, based in Los Angeles, California.
